The defending Ladies champion, Angelique Kerber of Germany wasted no time on Rod Laver Arena today in claiming her first easy win of this year’s Australian Open, when she defeated Krystyna Pliskova (Karolina Pliskova’s twin sister) 6-0 6-4.
This should help settle the No. 1’s nerves, especially knowing that Serena Williams is hungry for a few milestones again.
Speaking of Williams, older sister Venus also cruised into the last 16 when she defeated Duan Yingying of China, 6-1 6-0 on the Margaret Court Arena. She will now do battle against Mona Barthel, who ended the homegirl, Ashleigh Barty’s good run with a 6-4 3-6 6-3 win.
