“Priscilla Queen of the Desert The Musical” is making its way around the world, including showstopping performances in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, New York and the United Kingdom, and now, the bus has made its way from the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town to the Teatro at Montecasino in Johannesburg.
Based on the 1994 movie, “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert”, which was written and directed by Stephan Elliott, “Priscilla Queen of the Desert The Musical” started in Sydney in 2006.
The story revolves around three friends (Tick, Bernadette and Adam), who travel from Sydney to Alice Springs, crossing the Australian Outback in a bus, christened “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” by Adam. These are no ordinary guys. Tick aka Mitzi and Adam aka Felicia, are drag queens, whilst Bernadette is a transgender woman.
They embark on a journey of self discovery, love and friendship, encountering several challenging obstacles along the way.
The South African cast of Daniel Buys (Mitzi), David Dennis (Bernadette), Phillip Schnetler (Adam) and their co-performers, under the direction of Brian Schimmel, Anton Luitingh, Alistair Kilbee and choreographer, Duane Alexander, will ensure that you enjoy just over two hours of non-stop flamboyant entertainment, encompassing the best of the movie script and including hit songs like “I will survive”,”I Love The Nightlife”, “Go West”, “Hot Stuff” and “Finally”.
The show runs until 18 June 2017 and is a must see for all musical lovers and theatregoers alike.
