World No. 1 and top seed, Andy Murray’s French Open preparations took another knock, when he was ousted by the unseeded Borna Coric of Croatia, 6-3 6-3 on Day 8 of the Mutua Madrid Open in Spain.
The 20 year old Coric, who is currently ranked No. 59 on the ATP World Tour, only won his first ATP tour title, the 2017 Grand Prix Hassan II in Morocco a month ago.
The Croat, who lost his qualifying match, but then qualified as a Lucky Loser after Richard Gasquet withdrew due to injury, used his blistering forehand returns to frustrate Murray.
Coric will now meet the 8th seed, Dominic Thiem of Austria in the quarter-finals. Thiem knocked out the 12th seed, Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria, 4-6 6-4 7-6(9) a few moments ago.
