Serena Williams and Ashleigh Barty did not disappoint the tennis faithful with their much anticipated second round clash, which has just finished on Chatrier.
Williams, a three-time singles champion here in Paris was a shaky starter against the 17th seeded Barty.
Williams, donning her now famous “Wakanda” style catsuit started grunting early in the first set and kept up with Barty until the Australian got the double break. Williams managed to hold serve, forcing Barty to serve the set out.
The second set got underway and Williams’ vocal chords went up a few notches. She broke the Barty serve in the fourth game. The rest of the set went according to serve with Williams powering her way to the decider by serving an ace.
Enter the third set and the power hitting fest by both players continued. There was only one break of serve and that belonged to Williams, who went on to secure her third round spot with a well earned 3-6 6-3 6-4 win.
Williams will now play Julia Gorges of Germany, who saw off Alison Van Uytvanck of Belgium, 7-5 7-6(5).
