Bacsinszky breaks French hearts

The French crowd and the blustery conditions could not stop the 30th seed, Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland from reaching her second French Open semi-final, when she defeated the home favourite and 13th seed, Kristina Mladenovic 6-4 6-4 on Court Philippe Chatrier today.

Mladenovic, who did not look comfortable from the onset, was battling with the conditions, which sent her regularly to her chair for more eye drops.

Bacsinszky, who quickly took the lead in the opening set, also fell prey to the blustery conditions, as she battled to get her serves in, allowing Mladenovic to break back.

As the conditions deteriorated, the rain came down, sending the players to the locker room twice during the match.

Bacsinszky was definately less deterred by the breaks in play as she continued to control the match and book her semi-final spot, courtesy of a forehand error from her opponent.
