In January 2005 I visited La Lucia Mall for the first time.  After doing some window shopping, I decided to pop in to Europa Food Emporium coffee shop for a snack.

A few minutes later, who walked in……none other than Craig Davidson, the Sharks and Springbok scrumhalf.  Being the rugby supporter that I am, I was elated to see him, but remembering that he played for the opposition and had given my beloved Blue Bulls many grey hairs, I kept the elation to myself.  At that stage, I did not know that he owned this particular Europa coffee shop.

As we had taken to their food, we started to visit the shop more often.  Some of the dishes that we have thoroughly enjoyed over the past few years include Caruso, Bocelli, Parma, Toscana, Tra-Genoa, Tra-Roma, Portofino, Napoli, Halloumi basket, Crumbed chicken strips, a number of pasta dishes and pizzas, only to name a few.  Oh yes, and don’t forget their “Specials” menu – the burger is a must!!!

The coffee shop has a great vibe, great food and Craig just rounds it off with being a great host.

We have over the past few years chatted a number of times, discussing rugby on and off the field.  His dedication to rugby earned him 109 caps for the Sharks and 5 tests for the Springboks and in 2009, he was awarded the Freedom of the Park by the Sharks Rugby Union.  His commitment certainly comes through in his business as he maintains the highest standard expected by the Europa franchise.
