It was Quarter-Finals day in the Men’s draw and Court No. 1 was set alight by a fantastic display of backhand shots by the Frenchman, Richard Gasquet and the Swiss player and fourth seed, Stanislas Wawrinka, in their marathon five-set epic match which lasted 3 hours 28 minutes.
It will be a day that Gasquet, who has previously mentally battled to close off the big matches, will not easily forget. He held his nerve to advance with a 6-4 4-6 3-6 6-4 11-9 win and in doing so, booked a semi-final clash against the defending champion and top seed, Novak Djokovic, who defeated Marin Cilic 6-4 6-4 6-4.
In the other half of the draw, the second seed Roger Federer defeated Gilles Simon 6-3 7-5 6-2 and he will now battle it out with the third seed, Andy Murray who defeated Vasek Pospisil 6-4 7-5 6-4.
