The defending champion and No.1 seed, Andy Murray of Britain, needed just 1 hour and 43 minutes so send the lucky loser, Alexander Bublik home after he defeated the Kazakhstan player, 6-1 6-4 6-2 on Centre Court today.

Murray, who has been battling with a hip injury that forced him to cancel some warm up matches going into Wimbledon, was limping along the baseline during the match. 

In the post match interview, Murray acknowledged that despite being in a bit of pain, he was still able to run around on court, so it didn’t affect his game.

One of the Australian hopefuls, Nick Kyrgios, was not as lucky, as his hip injury forced him to retire during his first round match against Pierre-Hugues Herbert of France, with the Frenchman leading 6-3 6-4. 

Kyrgios, who injured his hip during last month’s Queen’s Club tournament, looked uncomfortable from the start today and acknowledged in the post match interview that he wasn’t fit enough going into the tournament, but still hoped to play well.
