Bagnis started off well, being two games up in the opening set, but the Nadal of old soon returned, giving the Argentine a Tennis 101 lesson that he won’t easily forget. Bagnis managed to save a match point and then break the Nadal serve in the third set, but it was too little too late.

Nadal is hoping to clinch a record tenth French Open Grand Slam title. The overall record for the most Grand Slam Singles title wins at a tournament is held by Australian, Margaret Court, who won eleven Australian Open Ladies Singles titles during her illustrious career, which included 24 Grand Slam titles in total.

Nadal will now face fellow Spaniard, Marco Granollers in the third round. Granollers advanced when his opponent, Nicholas Mahut of France, retired hurt during their second round match.
