Despite it being a scorcher at Melbourne Park today, the Ladies 5th seed, Karolina Pliskova, needed just 60 minutes to storm past the unseeded Sara Sorribes Tormo of Spain, 6-2 6-0 on the Rod Laver Arena this morning. 

The Czech player, who is an outsider to win this year’s tournament was in blistering form, blasting 5 aces and 26 winners past the Spanish player. 

Pliskova will now meet Anna Blinkova of Russia in round 2. Blinkova defeated Monica Niculescu 6-2 4-6 6-4.
