In the Men’s draw, the 2016 Wimbledon finalist, Milos Raonic from Canada was knocked out of this year’s US Open Tennis Championships yesterday by Ryan Harrison of America, 6-7 (4) 7-5 7-5 6-1.

The 5th seeded Raonic, battled cramps during the match and attributed it to nerves and stress. A string of unforced errors certainly did not help his cause.

Harrison, who despite a great start to the tour a few years ago, has fallen by the way side, but managed to show nerves of steel in recording the biggest win of his career to date.

In the Ladies draw, the 2016 French Open champion, Garbiñe Muguruza of Spain, suffered a shock defeat at the hands of unseeded Latvian player, Anastasija Sevastova, 7-5 6-4.

Muguruza, whose form has slumped since winning the French Open, had a shaky start in the first round against the Belgian qualifier, Elise Mertens. During that match, she called for the trainer and complained that she had trouble breathing. She however managed to recover and came back from a set down to win the match 2-6 6-0 6-3.

Sevastova, who retired in 2013 after some injuries and illnesses, returned to the professional circuit in 2015. She has already beaten some of the former Top 10 players in her career, including Jelena Jankovic, Samantha Stosur and Flavia Pennetta, but last night’s win against Muguruza on Ashe, was certainly the biggest and best one so far.
