The Suisse tennis player, Timea Bacsinszky, who is ranked No. 30 at this year’s French Open, completed a deja vu double as she repeated her fourth round win over the 2002 finalist, Venus Williams, 5-7 6-2 6-1 on Court Philippe Chatrier this afternoon.

Bacsinszky, who had the upper hand in the first set, squandered her chances by allowing the 36 year old Williams to break back and take the set, when she hit a forehand shot into the net.

From thereon, Bacsinszky fought back to dominate the match, keeping the seven-time Grand Slam champion on the baseline. The 10th seeded Williams was unable to get a grip and could also not stop her energetic opponent from running circles around her. 

Despite being disappointed at the loss, an exhausted Williams gave Bacsinszky a big congratulatory smile at the net, a testimony to the respect and good spirit in which the match was played by both players.

The win also means that Bacsinszky has reached her third consecutive French Open quarter-final and will now battle it out against the home favourite, Kristina Mladenovic.
