Chef (movie review)

Leigh-Ann Ludwig, Chef movie, www.leighslounge.co.za

Chef Carl Casper (Jon Favreau) is the head chef at Riva, a restaurant owned by Dustin Hoffman. When an acclaimed food critic, Ramsey Michel (Oliver Platt) is going to review the restaurant, Casper wants to try a more creative menu but is instructed by Hoffman to stick to the current menu and does not receive a favourable review by Michel.

Casper goes on a Twitter rant, followed by an altercation between himself and Michel at Riva (which goes viral), and leaves his job.

His ex-wife, Inez (Sofia Vergara) convinces him to join her and their son, Percy on a trip to Miami where he later accepts a run down food truck. He restores the truck and is joined by his friend from Riva, Martin and together they and Percy travel back to Los Angeles with Percy promoting the food truck on social media websites.

As with most of Jon Favreau’s movies, it was enjoyable but I found the middle part to be a bit long-winded.

Directed by Jon Favreau

Also starring John Leguizamo, Robert Downey Jnr, Scarlett Johansson and Bobby Cannavale

Running time – 114 minutes
