Two weeks ago, Romania’s Simona Halep was a doubtful starter for the French Open, after a scan revealed that she had damaged ligaments after rolling her ankle during the Italian Open final, which she lost to Elina Svitolina of the Ukraine.

Halep had won the Madrid Open a week before that and with Serena Williams out and Angelique Kerber’s inconsistent form, she was the favourite for the French Open, which got underway this week.

The third seed and 2014 Finalist, Halep has undergone treatment and today, won her third match this week, without dropping a set, after defeating Daria Kasatkina, 6-0 7-5. 

Her fourth round opponent will be Carla Suárez Navarro of Spain, who defeated Vesnina 6-4 6-4 in their third round match, also played today.

There’s not much in the H2H for these two players, with Halep leading 6-5, but more importantly for Suárez Navarro, is that all her victories over Halep have been on clay.
