The top French Ladies player, Kristina Mladenovic, is certainly keeping the local fans on edge at this year’s French Open tennis tournament in Paris.

Seeded 13, Mladenovic has played her toughest matches against two unseeded American players – Jennifer Brady, in the first round, whom she defeated 3-6 6-3 9-7 in 2 hours and 59 minutes. To make matters worse, she hurt her back on Sunday and was not even sure if she would make it to Court Philippe Chatrier on Monday.

Yesterday, she fought her way back from 2-5 down in the third set against Shelby Rogers to win their third round clash, 7-5 4-6 8-6 in 2 hours and 46 minutes.

Mladenovic, who is hoping to become the first Frenchwoman since Mary Pierce in 2000 to lift the coveted Suzanne Lenglen trophy, now finds herself facing the defending champion, Garbine Muguruza in the fourth round.

The two have only played once before, in 2015 on clay, with Mladenovic coming up trumps.

Mladenovic has already won one out of three final appearances this year, with Muguruza only managing two semi-final appearances.
