Garbine Muguruza of Spain was the first lady to book her place in tomorrow’s French Open Ladies Singles Final when she produced a clinical display of tennis to oust Samantha Stosur of Australia 6-2 6-4 on Court Suzanne Lenglen today.

Stosur, who played some great tennis during this tournament, found herself on the back foot throughout the match and despite some brilliant shots, was unable to break Muguruza’s momentum.

Meanwhile on Court Philippe Chatrier, top seed, Serena Williams from America was up against Kiki Bertens from the Netherlands, who has had a dream run in this year’s tournament. It was no walk in the park for the American as Bertens tested her throughout the match. In the end, experience counted and Williams advanced with a 7-6 (7) 6-4 victory.

Both players will be feeling the pressure going into tomorrow’s final. Muguruza will be hoping for her maiden Grand Slam title whereas Serena will be hoping that it will be third time lucky for her to equal Steffi Graf’s record of 22 Grand Slam titles.

The ladies have played each other four times before with Serena having won on three occasions. In the 2014 French Open, Muguruza recorded her only win against Williams. Based on current form, Muguruza looks in better shape and has had an easier road to the Final, but she had better watch out……there is a reason why Serena Williams is the defending champion and World No. 1 player.
