World No. 16, Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic, finally ended her 13 month dry run by defeating Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia 6-1 6-1 yesterday to capture her second Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open title in China, and her 18th career title.

The 6 foot tall Czech player, whose ranking has dropped from No. 2 since the beginning of 2015, looked in sublime form throughout the tournament. Her only real test came in the third round, when she had a tough three-setter against World No. 1, Angelique Kerber, which was dubbed the match of the year.

The diminutive Cibulkova on the other hand, had a much tougher road to the final, with four of her matches lasting three sets.

In an almost perfect performance by Kvitova, which lasted 63 minutes, she blasted 9 aces past Cibulkova and won 96% of the points on her first serve.

The players now move on to the China Open, which if she can maintain her good form, could see Kvitova still qualifying for the season ending WTA Finals in Singapore later this month.

In the Doubles final, Bethanie Mattek-Sands from the USA and Lucie Safarova from the Czech Republic defeated Sania Mirza of India and Barbora Strycova of the Czech Republic 6-1 6-4.
