Top seeds, Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams have easily advanced to the second round of the Australian Open.

Djokovic defeated Aljaz Bedene from Slovenia 6-3 6-2 6-4 and Williams later brushed aside Alison Van Uytvanck from Belgium 6-0 6-4.

Australian stalwarts, Lleyton Hewitt and Samantha Stosur both advanced to the second round.

Other players to advance on Day 2 included Stanislas Wawrinka, Kei Nishikori, Gael Monfils, Milos Raonic, David Ferrer, Caroline Wozniacki, Victoria Azarenka, Petra Kvitova, Venus Williams and Agnieszka Radwanska.
