English batsmen, Ben Stokes & Jonny Bairstow, continued their blistering form from yesterday to help the visitors in declaring at 629/6 on Day 2 of the second cricket test between South Africa and England at Newlands in Cape Town today.
Stokes, in particular took the South African bowlers apart in scoring 258 runs from 198 balls, which included 30 fours and 11 sixes. He was eventually run out by AB De Villiers. Bairstow backed him up well with an unbeaten 150 off 191 balls.
South Africa were soon in trouble when Stiaan Van Zyl was run out for 4. Dean Elgar scored 44 before being caught by Compton off the bowling of Stokes.
It was then up to Captain, Hashim Amla and AB De Villiers to continue the rescue efforts and both batsmen were still at the crease at the close of play. Amla not out on 64 and AB not out on 25.
There’s a long road ahead for the South African batsmen and we’ve put the raindance on hold……..for now.
