Italy’s Andreas Seppi set Rod Laver Arena alight when he came back from two sets down to defeat the home favourite and 14th seed, Nick Kyrgios 1-6 6-7(1) 6-4 6-2 10-8.

In a match that lasted just over 3 hours, Kyrgios started off like a steam train and soon found himself two sets up, but Seppi wasn’t going to lie down and started digging himself out of the hole, forcing the Aussie to make mistakes.

Kyrgios blew hot and cold and threw his racquet on the ground, which earned him a code violation.

Both players produced some scintillating tennis but in the end, Seppi was the one who looked fresher and remained cooler under pressure and with it, booked a 3rd round meeting against Steve Darcis of Belgium, who defeated Diego Schwartzman of Agrentina 6-3 6-3 2-6 6-4.
