Day 3 of the Australian Open has come and gone and with it, the departure of home favourite and the 14th seed, Nick Kyrgios, who lost to the unseeded Andreas Seppi in an action packed five-setter, 6-1 7-6(1) 4-6 2-6 8-10.

The other local hero, Bernard Tomic, managed to lift the Aussie’s spirits when he sent Victor Estrella Burgos of the Dominican Republic packing with a 7-5 7-6(4) 4-6 7-6(5) victory. 

The only other upset in the Men’s draw, came off the racquet of another unseeded player, Mischa Zverev of Germany who took out “Big” John Isner, the 19th seed from America, 6-7(4) 6-7(4) 6-4 7-6(7) 9-7.

Stanlislas Wawrinka, Kei Nishikori, Marin Cilic, Tomas Berdych, Roger Federer and Andy Murray all notched up wins.

In the Ladies draw, defending champion and Birthday girl, Angelique Kerber needed three sets to overcome fellow German, Carina Witthoeft 6-2 6-7(3) 6-2, whilst America’s Venus Williams defeated the Swiss player, Stefanie Voegele, 6-3 6-2.

In other Ladies action, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Jelena Jankovic, Eugenie Bouchard and Garbine Muguruza all advanced.
