Serena Williams served her way to another record on Day 8 of the US Open Tennis Championships, when she recorded her 308th Grand Slam Tennis Tournament match win after defeating Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan 6-2 6-3 last night.

This means that the World No. 1 now holds the overall record (male or female) for the most match wins in the history of the Grand Slam tournaments.

Serena had spent just over two hours before her own match got underway, watching older sister, Venus in a titanic battle against Karolina Pliskova, which Venus eventually lost after forcing a third set tie-breaker.

Serena’s match plan was very similar to that of Venus, but unlike the older Williams sister making a string of unforced errors after commanding a good lead in the first set, Serena just kept it simple to end Shvedova’s title hopes.

Next up for Serena will be the 5th seed, Simona Halep. Halep is a feisty competitor and you can be sure that sparks, and possibly some Halep racquets, if Serena gets the upper hand, are going to be flying around.
