Each year, an unsuspecting player grabs everyone’s attention at a Grand Slam tournament and this year, the spotlight is on Shelby Rogers, a 23 year old American player whose best success was reaching the third round at last year’s US Open. She is currently ranked 108 in the world.
En route to the Quarter-finals of this year’s French Open, she has disposed of three seeded players – Karoline Pliskova, Petra Kvitova and Irina-Camelia Begu 6-3 6-4 today. The draw, does unfortunately get tougher now as her next opponent is the fourth seed, Garbine Murguruza, who beat the 2009 French Open winner, Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-3 6-4.
In other fourth round Ladies Singles action today, Agnieszka Radwanska was a set up against Tsvetana Pironkova whilst Simona Halep was up in the first set against Samantha Stosur when bad light stopped play.
