South African Kevin Anderson faced Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the third round. The Frenchman won the first two sets but Anderson found form in the third set, winning the same. The fourth set went to a tie breaker which Anderson won. Roger-Vasselin broke the Anderson serve in the fifth set and it seemed as though the South African was on his way out, but a gutsy fight back ensured that his Australian Open hopes stay alive. The final score was 36 46 63 76 75.

Anderson’s 27 aces, 220 kph fastest serve and 82 winners were very impressive but he’ll have to do something about the 69 unforced errors when playing against the in form Tomas Berdych in the fourth round.

Other players to advance included Novak Djokovic, David Ferrer, Fabio Fognini and Florian Meyer. Not so lucky was Richard Gasquet (9) who lost to Tommy Robredo 26 75 64 76.

You may decide to take a vacation, go shopping or ease up a bit. Not if your name is Serena Williams though. Today she won her 61st Australian Open match by beating Daniela Hantuchova 63 63 and in doing so, breaking Margaret Court’s record.

Her next opponent will be Ana Ivanovic who won a tough three setter against the Australian Samantha Stosur 67 64 62.

Li Na had a battle on her hands against Lucie Safarova but eventually won the match 16 76 73.

Angelique Kerber, Flavia Penetta, Casey Dellacqua and Eugenie Bouchard also won their matches.
