There was action aplenty at Wimbledon today.
In the Ladies’ draw, it was the clash of the Williams sisters. Serena (1), not surprisingly, despite her exhausting match against Heather Watson on Friday, edged out older sister Venus with a 6-4 6-3 win. Serena dominated the game with her overall power, but Venus still proved that she is the stronger force at the net. Their mother, Oracene Williams, was not present, saying that it would be too difficult to watch her daughters do battle.
The apple cart was then thoroughly upset when Garbine Muguruza (20) shocked Caroline Wozniacki (5) with a 6-4 6-4 win whilst Coco Vandeweghe sent Lucie Safarova (6) packing with a 7-6 7-6 win.
Maria Sharapova (4), Agnieszka Radwanska, Victoria Azarenka, Madison Keys and Timea Bacsinszky also advanced to the Quarter-finals.
In the Men’s draw, Gilles Simon dismissed Tomas Berdych (6) with a 6-3 6-3 6-2 win.
Roger Federer (2), Andy Murray (3), Stanislas Wawrinka (4), Richard Gasquet, Marin Cilic and Vasek Pospisil all advanced.
