Ana sends Serena packing

This is just one of the many headlines across the world today!

Ana Ivanovic caused the biggest upset of this year’s Australian Open so far when she sent the No. 1 seed Serena Williams packing, 46 63 63.

The two have played each other four times, Williams reigning supreme each time and Ivanovic never having taken a set off her either.

Today will however be implanted in Ivanovic’s mind forever. The Serb didn’t stand back for Williams, hit more winners and made less unforced errors than the American and in doing so ended Williams’ 25 match win streak and dashing her hopes of winning the calendar Grand Slam. Ivanovic’s win has opened the door for the ladies draw and some will certainly be breathing a sigh of relief.

Next up Ivanovic will face Canadian Eugenie Bouchard who was tested slightly by the Australian hopeful Casey Dellacqua. Bouchard won the match 67 62 60.

In the other half of the draw, Li Na and Flavia Pennetta will do battle. Pennetta caused another upset by beating Angelique Kerber (9) 16 64 75.

In the Men’s draw there were comfortable wins for Novak Djokovic, David Ferrer and Stanislas Wawrinka.

South Africa’s hopeful Kevin Anderson was just not good enough to beat Tomas Berdych, who won in three sets 62 62 63.
