South African Kevin Anderson faced a tough opponent in the form of Marsel Ilhan of Turkey during his second round match today. Although he turned pro in 2006, the Turk has never advanced past the second round of any of the Grand Slam tournaments.

Despite being narrowly pipped in the first set tiebreak, there was not much separating the two players until Anderson managed to win the second set tiebreak, which boosted him to go on and secure the next two sets and match, 6-7 7-6 6-4 6-4. Anderson dominated all aspects of the game with 34 Aces, 59 winners and 26 unforced errors. His next opponent will be Leonardo Mayer from Argentina who defeated Marcel Granollers from Spain 6-3 7-6 6-3.

The popular Japanese fifth seed, Kei Nishikori, had to withdraw due to a calf injury. The injury, which first cropped up at the recent Halle tournament, reared its ugly head again on Monday, during his five set match against Simone Bolelli. This means that his opponent, Santiago Giraldo of Colombia will now face Denis Kudla of America in the next round.

Novak Djokovic, Stanislas Wawrinka, Grigor Dimitrov, Marin Cilic and Milos Raonic all booked their places in the third round.
