In just over two hours, world No. 1, Serena Williams takes on 10th seed, Caroline Wozniacki in the 2014 US Open Women’s Singles Final.

Serena Williams has won this title five times and is tonight hoping to clinch her 18th Grand Slam Singles title. The American No. 1 has had her fair share of controversy at the US Open. In 2009, she lost her semi-final match to Kim Clijsters which involved her shouting at a line judge and in 2011, during the final against Samantha Stosur which she lost, she had a verbal altercation with chair umpire, Eva Asderaki.

All things being said and done, it’s three years later, Serena has matured and is now dominating women’s tennis. Should she win tonight, she will equal Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova’s joint record of 18 Major titles, four behind Steffi Graf who has 22.

On the other side of the net will be Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki, a former No. 1 tennis player who is yet to win a Grand Slam title. This is the second time that she is competing in the final of the US Open, the other time being in 2009 when she lost to Kim Clijsters.

Wozniacki whose singles rankings have declined since 2012 only managed to win one title this year, the Istanbul Cup. In the run up to the US Open she played against Serena Williams twice, losing on both occasions.

The ladies may be good friends but you can believe with a Head-to-Head of 8-1 in Serena’s favour, it is going to be all business on Arthur Ashe Court tonight.
