Day 9 saw the last of the Men’s fourth round matches and the start of the Ladies quarter final matches.

In the Ladies draw, China’s Peng Shuai defeated the young Swiss, Belinda Bencic 6-2 6-1 whilst Caroline Wozniacki (10) swept past Sara Errani (13) 6-0 6-1.

In the Men’s draw, Gael Monfils defeated Grigor Dimitrov (7) 7-5 7-6 7-5, Roger Federer defeated Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4 6-3 6-2 whilst Tomas Berdych defeated Dominic Thiem 6-1 6-2 6-4.

The match of the day belonged to Croat Marin Cilic and Frenchman Gilles Simon. Cilic who had faced Simon four times before this match was yet to defeat the Frenchman, but in a hot and humid day at Flushing Meadows, he needed five sets to turn that around, winning the match 5-7 7-6 6-4 3-6 6-3.
